Casa Pacifica is Hiring an Independent Living Skills (ILS) Specialist (Part-time and Per Diem) Near Camarillo, CA

Wage band range $17.00 - $24.00 per hour. Starting pay is typically around $19.00 per hour; however, starting pay is ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.

Under the direction of the Stepping Stones Program Supervisor is to provide support, encouragement and leadership to the emerging adults that will be residing in the Stepping Stones Transitional Living Houses. The ILS SPECIALIST will empower the residents to grow and develop as good citizens and independent thinkers. The ILS SPECIALIST helps to facilitate a positive living environment.

Schedule: Sunday through Wednesday 6:30p-12:30a.

Per Diem staff are scheduled to provide shift coverage and work on an ass needed basis. Days and times can vary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (illustrated by typical activities):

  • Welcomes and interacts with emerging adults ages 18 up to 21, who will be residing in the transitional living homes, both single individuals and those with children. Engages youth in a life skills inventory to help understand their strengths and needs.
  • Acts as a role model with regards to policies, conduct and tolerance of personal differences; engaging in relational repair as needed
  • Provide a home-like atmosphere while also ensuring programmatic expectations. The ILS SPECIALIST will encourage responsibility, empowerment, and model a kind and caring approach.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST may be expected to give tours and provide information to callers and walk-ins and assist in interviewing prospective residents.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST will be able to hold residents accountable for their behavior, enforce program rules and expectations, and assist residents in creating an environment of cooperation and respect.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST may have to mediate resident conflicts, utilizing and adjusting the Shared Living Agreement.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST will work with TYS staff to report any resident safety concerns.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST will be able to engage the residents to establish and build rapport through a strength-based approach. The ILS SPECIALIST will support the residents in carrying out individual goals on their Transitional Independent Living Plan (TILP) and Shared Living Agreement.
  • Will hold house meetings as needed to meet the needs of the residents as they work towards a collaborative co-existence.
  • ILS SPECIALIST will be able to suggest and help residents fine-tune appropriate living skills to aid positive peer interactions, parenting skills, self-care skills etc.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST may need to utilize crisis intervention techniques or call the necessary mental health or law enforcement personal. The ILS SPECIALIST also fills out incident reports as needed.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST will be asked to support the resident’s transitional plan that focuses on five life domains based upon the Transition to Independence Process Model (TIP): Living Situation, Employment and Career, Educational Opportunities, Community Life Functioning and Personal Effectiveness and Wellbeing. The goal is to support emerging adults becoming self-sufficient and develop life skills.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST will work collaboratively with all County partners for any resident who qualifies for EFC and utilizing the TILP.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST will work collaboratively with Casa Pacifica TYS staff in supporting the TILP as outlined by the emerging adult and Transitional Facilitator.
  • ILS SPECIALIST will provide “in the moment” life coaching as needed to support the TILP (ILP meeting), created by the resident and team. The ILS SPECIALIST will give feedback as part of the team approach to support the growth and independent skills of the resident.
  • ILS SPECIALIST will be responsible for collecting and tracking all necessary logs and pertinent CCL requirements (including safety checklists.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST will assist the residents in learning basic life-skills including: cooking, cleaning, laundry, fiscal responsibility, locating natural resources, and other pertinent needs that relate to independent growth and self-reliance.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST will be responsible for the upkeep and reporting any maintenance or facility issues to the appropriate personnel. Additionally, the ILS specialist is responsible for inventory of supplies and restocking when needed.
  • The ILS SPECIALIST will have open and collaborative communication with all TYS staff members such as Clinical Program Manager, Clinicians, Transitional Facilitators.
  • Establish an emergency protocol plan in conjunction with Casa Pacifica’s Safety Committee.
  • Provide Transportation using personal vehicle as needed.
  • Practices cost-effective measures as they pertain to administration.
  • Maintains confidentiality with respect to personnel, operations, and clients.
  • Needs to be organized and able to function well in a busy environment.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Must be able to think ahead and address issues before they arise – Preventive system of care.
  • Must have a professional and team player approach.
  • Perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • H.S. Degree or GED required; bachelor’s level degree in psychology, counseling or sociology preferred. Prior work and or relevant life experience in other behavioral health treatment settings with adolescents is a plus.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to manage several projects at a time.
  • Able to think flexibly and “work in the grey.”

Parenting Skills: Experience with infants/toddlers and has parenting skills or willing to learn and model these skills.

Language Skills: Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish). Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and Maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, and ratios.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to utilize rational decision making that is based on the best interest of transitional-age youth and the population we serve.
